While television specials such as the Victoria Secret runway show might be encoded with messages of beauty, glamour, and such viewers decode the message in a variety of ways. Several take part in oppositional reading by rejecting the show or expressing distast in its apparent messages. Regardless of the intended message viewers, based upon their own experience, knowledge, and culture will decode the message in many different ways.

Police: Nine killed in shooting at Omaha mall, including gunman.

It seems as though since the extensive media coverage of Columbine years ago a trend of public shooting among outcast teens has drastically increased. It’s a difficult situation for those who feel a responsibility to report the news. On one hand there is the public’s desire and demand to receive the “truth.” On the other hand reports could be placing ideas into teens’ heads that would other wise not have arisen.
